#52WeeksofGratitude - week 30

Your Current Age

Oh my GOODNESS! Well, there it is… my age.

I’m thankful for the life I’ve lived so far, with all its twists, turns and unexpected surprises and blessings. I’ve seen not one but two active volcanoes in person, traveled to some amazing destinations, and been picked out of audiences to do crazy things on stage. I’ve also jumped out a plane, and am looking forward to doing it again whenever I can!

My numerical age is irrelevant. I feel 26 and I haven’t aged a day since.

I’m sticking to that.

Love and Peace,

Kay

Your Favorite Memory

Funny this post should come on this day, because it’s almost the 12th anniversary of my favorite memory ever…the first time I saw my son.

Kay

Your Past

Hahaha, and I repeat, hahaha! My past is just that.

Mine.

Locked up with no key.

But, here’s a picture from my childhood.

Kay

Favorite Spot in Your City

I had a part time job taking photos of an area near Las Vegas for a scientific study a few years ago. My job was to explore this area and take as many photos as possible, particularly of the flora and fauna at different times of the year, so their growth cycles could be measured.

On this job, I found a “hidden” spot that I love. It’s not really “in” my city, but it’s within a half hour drive.

It’s my secret.

Love and Peace,

Kay

Someone You Got to Meet

I got to meet Arnold Schwarzenegger once. I actually got to sat next to him on a couch and eat dinner (my life is weird sometimes).

I was 21, and was working at an art gallery in Las Vegas. He attended an event we held, and I did as well. Our owner had a small buffet set up in his office for the workers to come in and take a dinner break during the event. My time comes to take a break, I walk in and the only empty space to sit was right next to Arnold on the couch. So, he must have seen my hesitation because he patted the seat. LOL!

I didn’t talk to him much, but it was a nice gesture on his part, and I get some bragging rights.

Love and Peace,

Kay

Education

One thing I’ve learned in 46 years is that a piece of paper can do little to prove your intelligence. I’ve known brilliant people that dropped out of high school, and complete buttheads with multiple degrees from prestigious universities.

Education is the sum of all experiences in life. You must be adventurous, open minded and brave.

Never believe that you are fully educated, because you are not. There is always something left to learn.

Love and Peace,

Kay

A Book You Learned From

“Cry of the Kalahari” by Mark and Delia Owens is by far my favorite book ever. I did a book report on it in grade school, and it made a profound impression on me. As newlyweds, the Owens’s left America with little to nothing, to pursue their dream of studying African wildlife on the Kalahari. How incredibly brave of them! Their leap of faith turned into a lifelong quest for animal and human rights, and many, many interesting side trips along that route. I admire them.

Please check out their amazing, and TRUE, tales of adventure.

Love and Peace,

Kay

Favorite Physical Trait

Eyes are the windows to the soul, right? I suppose it’s not very surprising to say that eyes are my favorite physical trait of someone, because they usually top most people’s list of favorite traits.

Something You Use Everyday

Holy cow, I don’t know how I got along without this little gadget…my Sonicare toothbrush. My boyfriend makes fun of my “first world” toothbrush, but I tell you, I love it. My teeth feel so clean.
I also bought a Clarisonic facial cleaner, which is based on the same technology. I love it too! They are my indulgences.

You have to find happiness in the little things.

Love and Peace,

Kay

Things You Like About Summer

Summers in the desert of Las Vegas always reach the triple digits for several solid weeks at time. There is absolutely nothing to like about that, and I don’t. I hate the temperature in the summer, with a passion.

So, things I like about summer? Hmmm… ice cubes for drinks, swimming pools, cold movie theatres, air conditioning, and vacations to cooler climates.

Oh, and I like the smell of Hawaiian Tropic suntan lotion.

Love and Peace,

Kay

A Friend 2

Another close friend I have been friends for nearly twenty years or more. Her friendship brings me happiness, humor and understanding. She has always remained supportive and non-judgmental of whatever calamity I happened to be going through at the time, and I’m in debt to her. Plus, she's funny.

I’m a lucky friend to have her.

Love and Peace,

Kay

Health

Health, unfortunately, falls into that category of “maybe tomorrow”, and I don’t have a good reason why. I could argue that I need to spend time in front of the computer perfecting my stories, and honing my craft. But, in the end, I’m honestly not sitting for 8 hours straight a day.

I know that when I exercise and eat well, I feel better. And I strive to.

Love and Peace,

Kay

The Weather

Bring on the rain, thunderstorms and rainbows.  Being a desert dweller my whole life, I’ve come to appreciate the drama of a sudden desert storm, and the power behind it.  Our storms are not gentle, they are usually announced by a deafening clap of thunder and pounding rain, albeit short lived.

Love and Peace,

Kay

Something You Take for Granted

Time.

I always think I’ll have enough.  But, I should know by now that I don’t.  I’ve loved and lost several very important people in my life way too soon, and it should have taught me the very important lesson of: ”you never know how much time you have left.”

Yet, I still procrastinate on the important things.  Do you?

Why?

Love and Peace,

Kay

Simple Things in Life

Food. Shelter.

Aren’t those the bare necessities?  My son had an assignment at school to write things that he needed as opposed to things he wanted.  One of the things he listed was ice cream, and he got marked off for it.

But, it made me think…isn’t ice cream a necessity?  Isn’t a little play and fun, a simple necessity of life?  I think so.

Head to an ice cream shop and treat yourself today.  Why not?

Love and Peace,

Kay

#52WeeksofGratitude - Week 15

Things You Like About Spring

There are two little guys that come out to visit us every spring.  Their names are Tank and Hummer, my male desert tortoise brothers.  After brumating all winter deep in their hidey hole (probably watching way too much Netflix or Disney Plus), they emerge in spring, groggy and bleary eyed.  They keep us company all summer, until late fall when they decide it’s time to disappear again.

I’ve had these guys for about fifteen years now, and it’s been great fun to watch them grow.  They’re so friendly they even try to eat the thistle tattoo on my leg. Cheeky little boogers.

Love and Peace,

Kay

A Talent You Have

I love to organize.  It clears my head, and brings a bit of fresh, sparkly magic to the space. My house might not be the cleanest, dirt wise (uh…two dogs and a man child), but I know exactly where everything is.

Sometimes, when I feel overwhelmed or confused, I’ll organize a drawer.  It works.  I feel centered and ready to tackle the world again. Try it…there’s something to it!

A Challenge You’ve Overcome

I WROTE A BOOK!

Actually, more than that, I’ve written several and have several more on the way.  I won’t lie, it’s grueling.  But it’s also been rewarding and I can truly say I’ve laughed and cried with my characters during late nights and early mornings.

The challenge was DOING IT…writing “The End” (which is metaphorical, because I’ve never actually typed those words).

I said I would and I DID IT.  I’m addicted.

Love and Peace,

Kay

Your Favorite Personality Trait

HUMOR.

Without which, the world would be a drab place.

I love a good comedian, movie or friend that can make my fall down laughing.  Sometimes, I can go immediately to cry-laugh, which is the greatest.

Laughing is good for your health, and your ab muscles.

Love and Peace,

Kay
