Author Kay Phoenix

Thanks for indulging me to post on my own blog feature.  Truly, I feel a bit strange doing it.  Also, I wanted to try out the questionnaire I wrote, to make sure the questions were cohesive and inclusive of anything an author would want to include.  I may make a couple changes.

That stated, I'll make you a deal.  If you post a reply, I'll pick one of you (or all, if I'm feeling generous), to receive one of my previously published e-books in .pdf form.  Deal?  Ok.

One of my all-time favorite vacations was a few years ago when my sister and I went to the The Resort at Pedregal in Cabo San Lucas for their annual Food and Wine Festival.  It was pure heaven!  When you arrive at the resort, the entrance is through a FIRE LIT TUNNEL.  I mean, you know you’re in for a grand time when you drive through a fire-lit tunnel to get to the resort.

Our room was amazing.  There was a plunge pool right outside the sliding glass door, and every afternoon at 4pm, chips, homemade guacamole and two Coronas showed up, as if by magic.

As my sister was actually there for work (she worked for a popular food magazine and was covering the event), we were able to attend a variety of culinary events and training.  We even took an excursion to a local farm where we picked fresh produce to make into delightful culinary treats.

Everyone that worked at the resort were top-notch, and you got the sense that they truly took pride in giving you the best guest experience possible.  We even talked privately with a few who told us that they held a high sense of pride to work at the resort, as jobs there are highly sought after.

Our last night there,, the Festival put on an amazing multi course dinner and fireworks show, celebrating their anniversary. To sum up our entire visit in one word…MAGICAL! From our first drive through the tunnel, to the magical afternoon chips and salsa that appeared in our room, to watching a fireworks display over the beach while holding sparklers.  Pure magic!

I highly recommend the Capella Pedregal resort to anyone.  It is a bit pricey (but worth it), and would make an ideal honeymoon destination or special anniversary trip.  The resort is stunning and the staff will make you feel pampered and well taken care of.

Excerpt:

“So, how are you feeling today?” a familiar voice asked behind him. He didn’t have to turn to know who it was, but he turned anyway, temporarily forgetting about his sunburn until he saw the shocked expression on her face.
“Whoa! No sunblock either? I had some, you could have asked,” she giggled. “That’ll peel for sure.”
Blue! Brilliant, shimmering blue eyes. He hadn’t seen her eyes during their hike, as they’d been hidden behind sunglasses the whole time, and he’d always been a sucker for blue eyes. Her blonde hair hung long, loose and wavy as she leaned casually against the doorframe.
“I see you’ve already made yourself quite at home,” she said. “Randall told me he let you use the conference room.”
“What are you doing here?” he asked in a tone that sounded a bit too firm.
“Oh, no ‘How are you?’ or ‘Nice to see you?’” She tilted her head to the side, causing a loose curl to graze her breast.
He turned back to the coffee. “I didn’t mean to sound rude. You just surprised me.”

My Sexy Saturday

My Sexy Saturday ( http://mysexysaturday.blogspot.com/ ) is all about sexy. Control is sexy.  It’s sexy to give up control in the bedroom.  But, in order to trust someone enough to give up that kind of control, you must first learn how to give up control outside of the bedroom, not just to them, but to fate.  In this snippet of my short story “The Plane Truth” ( https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/214003 ), Emily, who absolutely hates flying, gets a lesson from Aiden about giving up control when the plane they are flying in hits a bad thunderstorm.

“Do you believe in fate, Emily?”

“What?” she asked turning to him, her brow creasing.  Was he going to get philosophical?  Now?  The plane dipped again and she swallowed hard, uncrossed her arms and clenched the armrests.

“You can only have so much control over your life; the rest is up to fate.  You can control what you eat for breakfast, what you wear, where you live.  But, you can’t control certain things, like this airplane.  Sometimes you just have to let go,” he told her in an even, calming tone.

The speakers came on with a crack and this time the plane hushed.  “Ladies and Gentleman, this is Captain Jim again.  It looks like this storm is going to be a bit of a bear on us.  We just got off the radio with Reno and they have cleared us to land due to unstable air currents in our flight path.  I apologize for the unscheduled landing.  We will wait out the storm and should be cleared to take off again as soon as it passes.  If anyone has connecting flights in Seattle, representatives will be standing by to accommodate you.”

Emily turned back to Aiden hoping her fear didn’t show.

“I bet dying next to me is the last thing you ever wanted,” he said with a half smile.

Her mouth opened and closed a few times like a fish while she focused on something past his right shoulder.   She realized she wasn’t quite sure how to answer him.

What happens next?  Well, their situation suddenly becomes much more intense, and their convictions are put to the test.

My Sexy Saturday

Things are heating up at ( http://mysexysaturday.blogspot.com/ ).  So many great authors are participating!

This Saturday, the sexiness continues between Emily and Aiden in my short story “The Plane Truth”, available for FREE on Smashwords with the code# QA52X   .

“You have walls up, I can see that.  But, I have a wrecking ball.  Two in fact.”  His lips spread in a mischievous grin.

“Ah, do you now?”  Emily nodded and grinned back at him.

“May I kiss you, Emily Sutton?”

Emily felt her cheeks warm.  “Um, can you repeat the question?”

He didn’t.  He leaned over and kissed her, tentatively at first, then more solid.

Emily melted into his kiss, parting her lips and allowing his tongue to delve into her mouth.  Her heart beat loudly behind her ears and she suddenly felt overwhelmed and broke the kiss.  She looked into his eyes and licked her lips pensively.

“I’ve wanted to do that for a long time,” he said.

My Sexy Saturday

Don’t you just love the name “My Sexy Saturday ( http://mysexysaturday.blogspot.com/ )?  Yes, that’s right!  “My Sexy Saturday” is a blog hop designed for authors to showcase sexy bits of their stories for your enjoyment (7 words, 7 sentences, or 7 paragraphs).   So, indulge in a bit of sexiness today!

In this excerpt from “The Plane Truth”, Emily meets Aiden for the first time… and is rendered speechless.

     He turned.  It wasn’t Peter.

Her gaze traveled quickly down the stranger’s body and back up as he walked the few steps toward her.  Wearing jeans, a leather jacket and carrying a red motorcycle helmet, he looked like he just stepped off a movie set and belonged at … “Ace Models is three doors to the left,” she offered.

He smiled and stretched out his hand.  “Emily, I presume?”

She cocked her head to the side and nodded, her mouth slightly agape.

     “I’m Aiden Masterson.”

Their handshake lasted a bit longer than it should have as the information registered.   He wasn’t quite the character she had been expecting to show up when Richard informed her the CEO of an investment firm was coming in to discuss the design of a new office building.

Their meeting wasn’t scheduled for another hour and Richard was out on a sales call.  She glanced at the clock on the wall and tried to compose herself before meeting his hazel eyes again.
