Author Bonnie Kelso

This week we're stretching our wings and welcoming Creativity Coach, Bonnie Kelso.  I've personally taken (and benefited majorly from) her ABC's of Creation course.  I highly recommend it for all creative types, and that certainly includes authors. Her guidance can bring you through any sort of creative blockage you may have, big or small.

Let's find out a bit about one of Bonnie's favorite places to get away...SEDONA, Arizona!

When Kay invited me to participate in Midweek Escapes the first place that came to mind was Sedona, Arizona. Sedona represents to me the mystical heart of the Southwest. It’s where I escape to when I need to connect with a parallel reality; where the unseen realm reveals itself to those who seek its wisdom. You too, can enter this magical realm if you go there with the balanced intentions of respect and openness.  What you will discover is guaranteed to inspire your inner creative child’s curiosity and wonder.

I have been to Sedona many times. The last time I went it was spring and I was with my lover. We held one another under the rich full moonlight, standing on sacred ground infused with red rock energy. In Sedona, these energies are given a name. They are mother and father, feminine and masculine, giving and receiving, and they move in spiral patterns that flow clockwise and counter-clockwise. You can measure them with a heart-calibrated pendulum. You can feel them with the senses of your soul. They are ancient, as old as the Earth itself. They have been labeled many things over the history of this land, but today they are most commonly known as the vortexes.

A vortex has to be felt in person to be truly appreciated. This is where your intentions of openness and respect will be tested. There are places where the vortex energies are stronger and more accessible, but sensitive souls can feel their presence all over the region. Vortexes are not limited to Sedona, they exist all over the world. The unique thing about Sedona is the collective consciousness that has been placed in the region by souls lifetime after lifetime. You can feel it when you first step out onto the orange-red sand. You have an instant understanding almost like experiencing déjà-vu, that this place is special.

If you have limited time, walk out towards Bell Rock. The path is not paved, but it is not a difficult walk to the base of the formation. You can climb the slopes of the rock if you wish, but the energy of it can be felt all around, so it is not necessary to put your life in peril attempting to climb to the top. Always keep in mind that going down is often more difficult that going up. Be respectful of the environment and your own limitations. Without respect, you will receive little of the gifts this sacred place has to offer.

Find a quiet place to sit and enjoy the majesty of the canyon. You will no doubt feel the wonderment I mentioned before. Lay the palm of your hand on the red sandstone and communicate with the energy it holds as you breathe deeply. Be aware of the sounds and scents around you. Tune into the natural power of all the elements that created this place. Sun, sand, wind and rain. If you begin to feel an energy exchange, then you are feeling into the vortex. Try not to question it, just go with it. You’ll feel vitalized afterwards, as if you were given an infusion of healing energy.

After a hike and energy exchange with the vortexes, you will be hungry. I’m not kidding, working with vortexes burns calories! One of my favorite spots for delicious and moderately priced food is the Creekside American Bistro. They have an adorable deck with red rock views rising over Oak Creek. They have great vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options as well as a wide selection of beers and wine. I mean, check out this moonrise photo!!! Wow!

As far as lodging goes, there are lots of ways to drop a wad of cash in Sedona for a first-class pampered experience, but if you live on a budget like me, you might enjoy the Arabella Hotel. This quirky, almost historic property, with its 1960s architectural style offers comfy (updated) beds, free breakfast, free bike rentals and an outdoor pool with a hot tub.

For a truly unique experience in Sedona, I can’t write this article without mentioning Angel Valley. If you are still reading, you deserve to know about it. Tucked away from the hustle of the tourist’s path, lies a land in transformation. The property has been through some trials, but there lies it restorative energy. Angel Valley is cared for by two earth angels, Michael and Amayra Hamilton. It is often reserved for retreats, but when an event is not in progress you can stay there on the property and enjoy the amazing energies that reside there. Staying at Angel Valley, either under the stars at a campsite or in one of their lovely cabins with a moon viewing window overhead, is an experience of other worldliness. We were there on the property alone as the only guests, but yet, we were far from being alone at any point in our experience there. I can’t even show you any photos, because we found ourselves so immersed in the experience of the place that we simply forgot to take any. How amazing is that? That is when you know you have left the outside world behind you.

Angel Valley is not for everyone, and if you want to stay there you will be undoubtedly screened by the caretakers. They simply want to make sure your intentions are in alignment with the respect and openness I mentioned in the beginning of this article. You can’t just book it on “hotels.com” and you probably never will! If walking a labyrinth in the moonlight to the sound of an angel’s harp, shedding your clothes to swim alongside fairies, and communing with alien life forms as they creep up beside your open window as you sleep sounds like your cup of tea… then Angel Valley might just be your next midweek escape.

Oh, and as for my lover and the embrace under the full moon, well, I’m not one to kiss and tell. But, one thing is for certain, Sedona offers a rich landscape of opportunities to inspire your heart and to restore your creative life.

Excerpt:

(from Chapter One: Circles)

Your Infinite Potential

Circles have been around for a very long time. They are a part of every human culture’s visual vocabulary, since man’s beginnings. Circles have strong ties to spiritual beliefs that transcend any one religion, making the circle an important member of the family of sacred geometry. Circles are powerful symbols of infinite potential. They represent the beginning and the end in one singular form. They are representative of completeness, wholeness and at the same time, everything you need to begin a journey.

Circles are powerful symbols of infinite potential. They represent the beginning and the end in one singular form.
As you dive into the rich and diverse waters of your creative life, always keep in mind that the circle is your beginning point. Just like the circle, you are already a complete, whole person. You are enough right here and right now. There is nothing you need to add. Everything you need is within you. You are here. The experience of yourself and your life in this present moment can clearly reveal your infinite potential to you. There is no other destination you needed. You have already arrived, because you are here. This makes a circle the perfect starting place when beginning a journey of growth. Since the day you were conceived you have been in a state of growth. This growth has been physical, mental, and emotional. Growth is felt through sensations of restriction and expansion. Like the circle, growth can be infinite.

Author Kay Phoenix

Thanks for indulging me to post on my own blog feature.  Truly, I feel a bit strange doing it.  Also, I wanted to try out the questionnaire I wrote, to make sure the questions were cohesive and inclusive of anything an author would want to include.  I may make a couple changes.

That stated, I'll make you a deal.  If you post a reply, I'll pick one of you (or all, if I'm feeling generous), to receive one of my previously published e-books in .pdf form.  Deal?  Ok.

One of my all-time favorite vacations was a few years ago when my sister and I went to the The Resort at Pedregal in Cabo San Lucas for their annual Food and Wine Festival.  It was pure heaven!  When you arrive at the resort, the entrance is through a FIRE LIT TUNNEL.  I mean, you know you’re in for a grand time when you drive through a fire-lit tunnel to get to the resort.

Our room was amazing.  There was a plunge pool right outside the sliding glass door, and every afternoon at 4pm, chips, homemade guacamole and two Coronas showed up, as if by magic.

As my sister was actually there for work (she worked for a popular food magazine and was covering the event), we were able to attend a variety of culinary events and training.  We even took an excursion to a local farm where we picked fresh produce to make into delightful culinary treats.

Everyone that worked at the resort were top-notch, and you got the sense that they truly took pride in giving you the best guest experience possible.  We even talked privately with a few who told us that they held a high sense of pride to work at the resort, as jobs there are highly sought after.

Our last night there,, the Festival put on an amazing multi course dinner and fireworks show, celebrating their anniversary. To sum up our entire visit in one word…MAGICAL! From our first drive through the tunnel, to the magical afternoon chips and salsa that appeared in our room, to watching a fireworks display over the beach while holding sparklers.  Pure magic!

I highly recommend the Capella Pedregal resort to anyone.  It is a bit pricey (but worth it), and would make an ideal honeymoon destination or special anniversary trip.  The resort is stunning and the staff will make you feel pampered and well taken care of.

“So, how are you feeling today?” a familiar voice asked behind him. He didn’t have to turn to know who it was, but he turned anyway, temporarily forgetting about his sunburn until he saw the shocked expression on her face.
“Whoa! No sunblock either? I had some, you could have asked,” she giggled. “That’ll peel for sure.”
Blue! Brilliant, shimmering blue eyes. He hadn’t seen her eyes during their hike, as they’d been hidden behind sunglasses the whole time, and he’d always been a sucker for blue eyes. Her blonde hair hung long, loose and wavy as she leaned casually against the doorframe.
“I see you’ve already made yourself quite at home,” she said. “Randall told me he let you use the conference room.”
“What are you doing here?” he asked in a tone that sounded a bit too firm.
“Oh, no ‘How are you?’ or ‘Nice to see you?’” She tilted her head to the side, causing a loose curl to graze her breast.
He turned back to the coffee. “I didn’t mean to sound rude. You just surprised me.”

My Sexy Saturday #MSS174

This week's "My Sexy Saturday" theme is "Rainy Afternoon".  Though it isn't raining, it's their first date and they spent a lazy afternoon in the Denver Art Museum, then took a rest on a bench out front. In this snippet from my newly released book, "Steele and Stone", Elle reads Michael's palm...

“Let me see something.” She turned his palm up and began tracing her index finger up and down the lines in the middle of it.
“You’re a palm reader, too?”
“Not really, but I do know a little about it. See this line here? That’s your lifeline. No, it doesn’t mean how long you will live. It means your life’s purpose. Basically, whether or not you are focused or scattered. You are focused, but you already knew that. See how solid it is? And this one, this is your money line. I think we both know what that one says.”
“What does it say?”
“It says you’re dirt poor and miserable, you always will be, and there isn’t a charitable, kind bone in your body. You’re an insufferable jerk, for sure." She met his eyes and grinned. “Only kidding.”

Author Gwyn McNamee

At Midweek Escapes, we feature a new author each week to share with us their favorite vacation spots and some information about their books!

Welcome Author Gwyn McNamee.  Let's find out what she loves about FLORIDA!

I absolutely love to vacation in Panama City Beach, Florida.  I have been there half a dozen times as I have family who has a condo there.  The beaches are incredible—white sand and water so clear, you can see all the way to the bottom even when you are out to sea quite a bit.  At the beach we usually go to, dolphins will even swim up near you.

PCB also has a ton of amazing restaurants and fun places to hang out.  There are restaurants and bars all up and down the beach and each one is kind of known for something different.  You can eat with your feet in the sand and watch the sunset at night over the water.  They also have some amazing cocktails down there that will really make your night enjoyable.  I’ve started collecting the keepsake mugs from different bars there just because they are so much fun.

I also love golfing and there are amazing golf courses all within driving distance of PCB, so I always bring my clubs.  Even in the winter, it is the perfect temperature down there to still do things outdoors.

PCB will be a setting for a book I am planning for probably 2018 or 2019.

The last thing I expect when I walk into The Hawkeye Club is to fall head over heels in lust. It’s supposed to be a rescue mission. I have to get my baby sister off the pole, into some clothes, and out of the grasp of the pussy peddler who somehow manipulated her into stripping. But the moment I see Savage Hawke and verbally spar with him, my ability to remain rational flies out the window and my libido takes center stage. I’ve never wanted a relationship—my time is better spent focusing on taking down the scum running this city—but what I want and what I need are apparently two different things.

Danika Eriksson storms into my office in her high heels and on her high horse. Her holier-than-thou attitude and accusations should offend me, but instead, I can’t get her out of my head or my heart. Her incomparable drive, take-no-prisoners attitude, and blatant honesty captivate me and hold me prisoner. I should steer clear, but my self-preservation instinct is apparently dead—which is exactly what our relationship will be once she knows everything. It’s only a matter of time.

The truth doesn’t always set you free. Sometimes, it just royally screws you.

Excerpt:

My blood is boiling and this man—Savage Hawke—has grated my last nerve. I can barely contain my desire to climb across his desk and smack him across his handsome, smug face for acting so high and mighty. He is a pussy peddler. A goddamn sleazebag who preys on young, impressionable, desperate girls in order to make a quick buck.

Savage Hawke.

He even has a porn star name. It wouldn’t surprise me if he was shooting them in some back room.

It’s too bad he’s so fucking gorgeous. He runs a hand back through his thick, wavy black hair and focuses his Caribbean-blue eyes on me with a calm that makes me want to throw my purse at him.

My traitorous body reacted to him instantly, heat churning deep in my belly the moment I walked into his office and saw him dominating the space behind his large, wooden desk.

The longer we talk, the worse it gets, and I have to press my thighs together to stop the dull ache there.

Damn, it has been way too long since I had a good fuck. What? Twelve days?

I’m so busy fuming and trying to rein in my runaway sex drive, I completely forget to respond to him.

“Ms. Eriksson,” he continues, giving me a smug smile, “I have a very rigorous interview process established to ensure none of my employees begin work here under any duress…”

I lift my brow in speculation and to ensure he’s aware of my disbelief. Bullshit! I bet their “interview process” involves lap dances and blowjobs in the champagne room.

“…Byron conducts a very thorough interview with each girl, including a complete background check to determine if they are under any serious financial strains. If I find they are, I typically offer them a personal loan, to be repaid at standard interest rates, to ensure they aren’t tempted to engage in pursuits some of the other clubs are often known for. We also do weekly drug testing and nightly breathalyzers, as our girls are forbidden from engaging in any illicit drug use and cannot perform while under the influence of any alcoholic beverages.”

I don’t believe him for a second. No damn strip club operates like that. He must think I’m some dumb, naïve, bimbo blonde to think I’ll fall for his line of horseshit.

He reclines back in his chair and waits for me to say something.

What does he expect me to believe? That he’s a pussy peddler with a heart of gold?
